Hi - My name is Lloyd Marks and I recognize that I'm a very fortunate man. I've had a fulfilling life, most importantly by having a wonderful family and friends. But I've also had the opportunity to be a doctor, engineer, businessman, consultant and educator. I've invented medical devices and sporting goods, founded a medical device company, started a medical technology consulting business, and have startups that are commercializing safety devices for skiing and scuba diving. I also have fun hobbies including sailing, guitar, scuba, skiing, and photography.
My wife, Janice, and I recently relocated to Tampa to live near my son and grandchildren. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered that Tampa is a hotbed of medical technology entrepreneurship, an area that is near and dear to my heart. In relatively short order, I've become an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Tampa (where I'm putting together a course teaching the basics of intellectual property protection to their students and mentoring startup companies), a medical advisor to NeuroEM, a startup that is developing a device that may provide a non-invasive treatment for Alzheimer's disease, and a mentor at the University of Florida's University of Florida's Nault Center for Entrepreneurship, where I'm also on a committee that is helping their technology transfer office license their rather substantial patent portfolio). I'm also resurrecting the Tampa chapter of SoPE (the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs).
